In this speculative scenario, CHARCO (meaning ‘puddle’ in Spanish) invites us to imagine ‘cyborg landscapes’, expansive spaces in which the moving body seeks out new relationships between infrastructure, nature, and society. Audiences will encounter a group of humans exploring ways of being alive together in a piece that interrogates our connection to the non-human world.

The performance installation combines choreographic scores performed by a group of dancers, interactive technology, and a sonic landscape that includes text and poems.

CHARCO, a world premiere for The Dance Space, is an episode of a larger research and multidisciplinary artistic project, The Machine of Horizontal Dreams (2023-25) by Pepa Ubera, that examines, questions and re-imagines ideas of progress.

About Pepa Ubera

Ubera is an artist and a dancer based in London. Her choreographic work challenges social structures, questioning how the body behaves in the current context. In her interdisciplinary practice she has been exploring other medias working with video, light, text, creating site specific and curating performance events.
